Aldeburgh Golf Club
The Aldeburgh Golf Club is located in Suffolk and offers 27 brilliant holes of golf. The 18-hole course, currently ranking 65th in Golf World’s top 100, is an 'all-year-round' course, maintained and presented in fine condition, with the added bonus of superb views across the River Alde to Iken Church on the southern bank and, across from it, a line of pine trees silhouetted against the water, known locally as ‘Little Japan’. Along with its many bunkers (over 100), the strength of its seaside breezes and its ability to make the golfer think on every shot, gorse provides Aldeburgh with a challenging hazard and also its crowning glory. The course is kept in fantastic condition and is rarely closed due to the sandy soil upon which it is built. The greens, undulating and testing to read, are enjoyable all year round and their high percentage of fescue and bent grasses produce a surface that is as pleasurable to putt on during the winter months as at the height of the golfing season. The River Course, a nicely balanced, short nine holes, overlooks, as befits its name, a wide, sweeping reach of the Alde. There are no bunkers. The trouble lies in the fir trees of several different species, some of them sporting a variety of magnificent, large cones. The fine-grassed greens are in good order and help to make this course equally ideal for a novice and an experienced golfer looking for a quick run out with the clubs.
