Inaugurated in 1909, the Fontainebleau golf course is one of the oldest in France. The golf course designed by Tom Simpson and improved by Frederic George Hawtree and his son Martin, is located in the Fontainebleau forest, near the town, on the ancient imperial hunting ground. Its narrow fairways are bordered with various species of trees such as pines silver birches, wild cherries, beeches and centenary oaks. It is very well equipped with 103 fine sand bunkers and also, dense outcrops of brooms, lilacs, ferns and wonderful jennets, which makes the course so attractive and difficult. The RCF Golf de la Boulie is part of one of the biggest sports clubs in France, the Racing Club de France (RCF). It offers golfers two fantastic 18-hole courses: La Foret and Vallee. La Foret course dates back to 1968 and is characterised by its wide, tree-lined fairways and large greens. The course has well-placed bunkers and tight dog-legs.
